Twelve citizens of Azerbaijan, held in the camp of Amern in the city of Gerablus of the Syrian Arab Republic, on September 10 repatriated to their homeland. Among the repatriate, brother and sister aged 7 and 10, who lost both parents. This was reported by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
According to the report, the citizens of Azerbaijan were taken to their homeland as a result of phased and coordinated measures taken by the government of Azerbaijan. First of all, the whereabouts, personality and belonging to the citizenship of Azerbaijan were subject to repatriation were determined. Then, on the basis of the agreement reached, their transition by transit through the territory of Turkey was ensured.
Member of the relevant state bodies, who were responsible for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria, conducted a preliminary medical and psychological examination of repatriates and provided them with the necessary assistance. Also, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tutzian provided Azerbaijan citizens with a return to the Azerbaijan Republic and flights.
Upon completion of the necessary procedures, repatriates will be transferred to families and guardians. The Azerbaijani government plans to take all the necessary measures for their reintegration and rehabilitation.
Along with the joint and coordinated activities of the relevant state bodies of Azerbaijan in the implementation of repatriation, the assistance of Turkey should be especially noted, the Foreign Ministry.
Baku said that the government continues, in accordance with national legislation and international treaties, the participant of which is Azerbaijan, to take the necessary measures to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens of the country that have been in difficult life situations abroad and in need of assistance.
