A few days ago, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for an international court in the Hague to give an opinion on the legal consequences of the “occupation” by Israel of the Palestinian territories.
87 countries voted for the initiative, 53 abstained, 26 opposed. The resolution was expressed almost unanimous support in the Islamic world. Russia and China also voted for “for”. Azerbaijan and Turkey also voted in the resolution. And Armenia was one of the 87 countries that voted for the UN General Assembly resolution.
Israel, the United States and many European countries, including the UK and Germany, opposed the resolution.
On the eve of the voting of the UN General Assembly, the resolution of Israel opposed this step. “No international body can decide that the Jewish people are an” occupier “in their homeland. Any decision of the judicial authority who receives its mandate from the morally untenable and politicized UN is completely illegal,” said the permanent representative of Israel at the UN Giladan Erdan .
He did not come to a meeting of the General Assembly, the United States voted on behalf of Israel. In turn, the Permanent Representative of Palestine Riyad Mansur thanked the countries that supported the resolution.
The International Court is the Supreme Judicial Body of the UN, which considers conflicts between states, its decisions are binding, although the court has no authority to force these decisions.
