From September 5 to September 7, 2022, the event of the International Plant Convention (ICRZR) in Europe and Central Asia will be held for the first time in Azerbaijan. The organizers of the event are the regional office of the UN program for food and agriculture for Europe and Central Asia (FAO-RU), the European and Mediterranean organization for quarantine and plant protection (Eoczr) and the Azerbaijani food security agency.
The event is devoted to the topic “Innovation in the field of plant health for food safety.” The main purpose of its implementation is to analyze the projects of international standards for phytosanitary measures, formulating and presenting comments on them, determining issues for 2023, increasing awareness of the International Convention for Plant Protection, Exchange of Experience at the Regional level.
In total, 40 people will take part in the event. Among them are the Secretary of the ICKZR Usama El-Lissy, CEO of Eoczr Nico Horn, representative of the FAO in Azerbaijan Melek Chakmak. Participants who will not be able to come to Baku because of the restrictions on the trip will take part in the event online from Paris.
It should be noted that the International Convention “On Plant Protection” was adopted in 1951 at the VI conference of the UN food and agricultural program in Rome. Azerbaijan joined this Convention since March 14, 2000. The Secretariat of the Convention contributes to the exchange of information between member countries in the field of vegetable resources and ensuring safe trade. Members of the Secretariat also provide assistance in the development and implementation of international standards and participate in the resolution of conflicts between the parties.
