Azerbaijani self-taught artist Huseyn Mirtagawi writes his paintings with medical scalpel on the faner.
Despite the lack of art education, the paintings of the 71-year-old Mirthagavi are not inferior to professional works.
The artist painted more than 200 paintings. In his work, he gives priority to create images of famous artists, literature and politicians of Azerbaijan and other countries of the Turkic world.
Among his works there are portraits of the founder of the Turkish Republic of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Huseyn Mirtagawi works as a researcher at the National Center “Azerbaijan National Encyclopedia”.
In an interview with an anadol correspondent, the artist talked about how he became interested in painting and about the methods of his work.
According to Mirtagawi, he was interested in painting since childhood. The basics of painting studied with his teacher in elementary school.
He said that despite the dream of becoming an artist, he received a higher geographical education. For some time he worked at the Institute of Geography of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. At the same time, he periodically painted paintings.
“Starting since 2011, I began to do more professional works, then I began to draw on a faner. Instead of a pencil and brush, I chose a scalpel. I am the only artist who draws a scalpel,” he said.
Mirtagawi also shared the history of writing portraits of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to him, he created two portraits of the Turkish leader. “I gave one of them the Turkish center of Islamic research during a trip to Turkey. I created the image of an Erdogan talking on the phone and called the picture” I listen to you, peace, “the artist said.
