In April 2022, the State Border Service (GPS) of Azerbaijan continued to take measures to ensure reliable protection of the state border, the fight against smuggling, illegal migration and illegal trafficking in narcotic drugs, the department said.
During the indicated period on the section of the Azerbaijano-Armenian state border, passing through the territory of the Zangilalan district, an attempt was suppressed by the provocative and sabotage group of the Armed Forces of Armenia to cross the state border of Azerbaijan. In other directions in April of this year, 22 people were detained for violation of the state border, including 7 citizens of Azerbaijan, 9 – Iran, 2- Georgia, 1 – Turkey, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and China.
It is noted that in the framework of the activity of combating illegal migration in 6 cases, 6 people with fake passports, Schengen visas and seals were detained. In 2 cases, 2 people were detained when trying to cross the state border according to documents belonging to another person.
in 53 cases, 97 people were detained for violation of the border regime, in respect of whom appropriate measures were taken.
As a result of the measures to combat crime, 187 people who were wanted were identified and transferred to the relevant authorities, 347 people who are prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan were prevented, and 23 people who are prohibited from entering the country. In addition, as a result of measures to combat the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, 186 kilograms of 679 grams of narcotic drugs and 8,827 tablets of psychotropic drugs were found and seized. In 2 cases, smugglers used firearms against border outfits. In 2 cases, as a result of the use of weapons by border guards, two border violators were neutralized in accordance with the instructions.
“As a result of measures in the fight against smuggling, smuggling was detained totaling about 4 million 584 thousand 557 manat,” the GPS said in a statement.
