Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry distributed a statement in connection with June 20 – World Refugees Day. According to HAQQIN.AZ with reference to the Foreign Ministry, the statement says that today is of particular importance for Azerbaijan, in which one of the world’s largest groups in the world forced displaced persons live.
“Aggressive policy held by Armenia forced almost a million Azerbaijanis to quit everything and leave their homes. As a result of the 44-day war, Azerbaijan freed his lands and restored territorial integrity. However, the fact that these lands were subjected to large-scale destruction and mining during Decades of military occupation Armenia still prevents the safe and decent return of refugees to their homes.
The Government of Azerbaijan takes all the necessary measures to ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons on the liberated areas, and also allocates funds for the restoration of cities and villages destroyed during occupation.
Armenian refusal to provide complete maps of all territories mined during occupation, delays the safe and prompt return of internally displaced persons. The recent tragic death of two journalists in Kelbajar once again clearly testifies to the threat with which people who cannot return to their homes for almost three decades.
We thank the neighboring states and partner countries for effective international cooperation in order to ensure the safe and worthy return of refugees and forced migrants to their homes. Each restored road, school, workplace, cultural or religious monument is a step towards a sustainable, peaceful and prosperous future of the region and local communities.
Today, the attention of the world is focused on refugees and forced migrants, and we call for global solidarity in order to ensure their return to their homes, “the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.
