Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dismissed Milli Majlis (parliament) and appointed extraordinary parliamentary elections for September 1.
The corresponding order is published on the website of the head of state.
“Guided by the first part of Article 98.1 and paragraph 1 of Article 109 of the Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic, I decide: to dissolve the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic of the sixth convocation. To appoint extraordinary elections to the Milli Medzhlis of the Azerbaijan Republic on September 1, 2024,” the document says.
Azerbaijan’s parliament on June 21 adopted the president with the initiative to postpone extraordinary parliamentary elections for two months in advance, which were supposed to take place in November of this year. The need to transfer it due to the fact that in the country from November 11 to 22 the 29th session of the conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (SOR29) will be held.

President Aliyev sent a request to the Constitutional Court with a request to consider the issue of compliance with the dissolution of parliament with the basic law of the country. On Thursday, the Constitutional Court at its Plenum recognized the legality of the dissolution of the Parliament as president.
