Azerbaijani President: Strategic Partnership Mulling Doubling Gas Supplies To Europe

The strategic partnership established in Baku in the energy sector provides for doubling gas supplies to Europe by the end of 2027. This was stated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during a performance on a round table on the topic “Energy and Communication”, held as part of the 4th Summit of the European Political Community in Oxford.

“If in 2021 the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe amounted to 8 billion cubic meters, then this year this volume will be approximately 13 billion cubic meters. The total export volume in 2021 amounted to 18 billion cubic meters, and this year will amount to 25 billion cubic meters, Moreover, more than half of this volume will go to Europe, ”the head of state said.

According to the president, eight countries receive Azerbaijani gas: these are five EU member countries, including Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Hungary and Romania, two Candidate countries-Georgia and Serbia, as well as Turkey.

Aliyev recalled, the day before, an important event occurred on the path of cooperation of Slovenia and Azerbaijan in the gas sphere.

“I hope that for several months we will be able to enter the Slovenian market. Now, after the implementation of European interconnectors projects, Azerbaijan will have more opportunities for gas supply to other European countries,” he stressed.

As for energy projects, the head of state noted that Azerbaijan was a reliable supplier.

“For almost twenty years, we have initiated and together with our neighbors put into operation the pipeline, which for the first time in history connected the Caspian and the Mediterranean Sea,” Aliyev said.

“Currently, from the Mediterranean port, Jahan in Turkey, we supply oil to various destinations, including very sensitive destinations that largely depend on Azerbaijani oil. In some countries, the consumption of Azerbaijani oil is fifty or more percent of their demand. For more than three years, we have become an important gas supplier, ”the head of state added.
