Azerbaijani Shusha was declared cultural capital of Islamic world

The city of Shusha in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan was declared the cultural capital of the Islamic world for 2024.

This was announced at the 12th conference of ministers of the culture of the Islamic world, held in the capital of Qatar, Doha.

The decision was made unanimously.

The city of Shusha has become one of the important centers of the historical, cultural, socio-political life of Azerbaijan, including a symbol of Islamic civilization.

2022 in Azerbaijan was declared the year of Shushi. In order to support the revival of Shushi cultural life, music festivals were held, poetry days, numerous local and international cultural events. The International Organization of Turkic Culture (Türksoy) announced Shushu the cultural capital of the Turkic world for 2023.

On November 8, 2020, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev announced the liberation of Shushi from the Armenian occupation. In the city center, a tricolor flag of Azerbaijan was hoisted.

The city of Shusha was occupied by the Armed Forces of Armenia on May 8, 1992.
