Azerbaijani State News Agency Azertaj Celebrates 105th Anniversary

Azerbaijani State Information Agency (Azertaj) celebrates the 105th anniversary of the foundation.

Founded in 1920 by decision of the Government of the Azerbaijan Republic, which proclaimed independence on May 28, 1918, the Azertaj agency today continues the most reliable source of the country’s news and one of the most active partners of international information agencies.

Azertaj, which began his activities in difficult conditions of that time and with disabilities, published his first news on March 1, which was subsequently recognized as the foundation date of the agency.

At that time, Azertaj waged a struggle against the misinformation of the Bolsheviks and Armenians both within the country and beyond, however, due to the Soviet occupation, he was able to work only 58 days.

After the creation of the post -Soviet administration in Azerbaijan, the agency was reorganized and continued under various names, including Azkafrosta, Aztag, Azerta and Azerinform.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the agency restored its original name Azertac and continued the activities as an official information agency of independent Azerbaijan.

constantly expanding the staff of employees, improving the quality of the news and increasing the number of broadcast languages, today Azertj pubs on average more than 500 news, over 40 videos and more than 100 photographs.

The publication of news content is carried out in eight languages, including Azerbaijani, Russian, English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic. The agency also has correspondent points in 25 countries.

Azertaj is a member of eight international organizations and headed the Asia-Pacific Association of Information Agencies (OANA) and the World Congress of Information Agencies (NAWC) in 2016-2019.

Last year, Azertaj was elected General Secretary of this structure at the Constituent General Assembly of the Assembly of the Turkic News Agencies in Istanbul (ATNA).

The Agency brings Azerbaijani realities to all corners of our planet and is perceived at the world level as an authoritative, reliable and impartial source of information.

Azertaj signed cooperation agreements with 53 information agencies in the world, is also an ANADOLUS agency partner organization.
