From March 10, the American company Discovery suspended broadcasting in Russia of its TV channels.
“Discovery decided to suspend the broadcasting of its TV channels and the operation of services in Russia,” the company says. Sources indicate that the Discovery guide went to such a step due to concerns about the censorship of the media.
Total in Russia turned off about 15 channels, among which, in addition to Discovery Channel, channels such as Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, TLC, Food Network, Cartoon Network, Boomerang and others.
Channels have already ceased to work in satellite and cable operators such as “NTV Plus”, “Telekarta”, MTS and others. Azerbaijani televisors suffered from this shutdown. The fact is that our cable operators relayed these TV channels using Russian satellite platforms. After disconnection, some Azerbaijani cables urgently reconfigured equipment, starting broadcasting the English-language versions of the channels mentioned above. This, however, caused discontent with a considerable share of subscribers, especially representatives of the older generation that do not own English.
In addition to Discovery, work in Russia after the start of the military invasion of Ukraine suspended such giants like CNN, BBC, ARD, ZDF, CBC, Netflix, Amazon Prime and others.
