On January 8, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev accepted the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Akbar Akhmadian. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.
During the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Baku advocates resolving regional issues by regional states, and in this regard, it was Azerbaijan that initiated 3+3 format, which is of regional cooperation. The inadmissibility of attracting non -regional external forces to the region was once again noted.
The parties discussed the issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iri in political, economic, transport, energy and other areas.
At the meeting, the importance of developing the North -South transport corridor was affected and in this context – the format of tripartite cooperation between Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran. It is noted that in Azerbaijan in this direction there are large volumes of cargo. An exchange of views on the Azrazsky Corridor project and construction within its framework of bridges and road transport infrastructure on the Araz River was also held in its framework. The special importance of this project was noted from the point of view of the development of regional transport relations. Projects of the construction of hydroelectric power plants along the Azrazan River between Azerbaijan and Iran were discussed. The issue of connecting the power lines between Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran was affected, the presence of great potential for cooperation in this direction is emphasized.
During the conversation, it was noted that relations between the two countries will continue to be developed on the basis of the principles of friendship, fraternity and good neighborliness, it was reported that the next meeting of the Azerbaijani-Iranian intergovernmental commission will be held in the near future. The hope was expressed that as part of the meeting, a favorable opportunity would be presented to discuss specific projects marked by the heads of state.
