Baku and Tbilisi deepen defense cooperation

Azerbaijan and Georgia signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of defense.

Signatures under the document were put on Monday in Baku Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Gasanov and his Georgian colleague Juanscher Burchuladze.

According to Azerbaijan’s defense department, during the meeting, ministers discussed the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and in the territory of Azerbaijan, where the Russian contingent is temporarily placed.

The parties discussed in detail issues of ensuring peace and security in the region, expanding cooperation in military, military-technical, military-educational spheres and other issues representing mutual interest.

The meeting discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral and tripartite cooperation between Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia, a detailed exchange of views on increasing the intensity of joint exercises and working meetings.

At the end of the meeting, Gasanov and Burchuladze signed an “Agreement on Cooperation in the field of defense between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of Georgia”.

As part of the visit of Burchuladze, he also visited the Shehids alley. The guest was accepted by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
