Baku And Washington Discussed Normalization Between Azerbaijan And Armenia

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jahun Bayramov held a meeting with a delegation led by a special assistant to the US President, Senior Director for European Councils on the National Security Council, Michael Carpenter. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.

Discussed bilateral and regional issues between Azerbaijan and the USA, the current situation and prospects of the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The importance of building up the efforts to create positive dynamics in bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the USA and determining the future prospects of cooperation was noted.

During the meeting, Jayhun Bayramov informed the American side about the process of normalization and a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, on the last Istanbul meeting. It was emphasized that, despite significant progress in negotiations on a peace agreement, the most serious obstacle to signing a final peace agreement is to preserve territorial claims against Azerbaijan in a number of legal and political documents of this country, in particular, in the Armenia Constitution.

The meeting also took an exchange of views on regional issues representing mutual interest.
