Baku High School of Oil – Ten Years

Baku High School of Oil (BVSHN) today marks ten years. BVSH has been established by Decree of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev dated November 29, 2011 as a state higher education institution as part of SOCAR. The goal of the creation of the Baku High School of Oil is to meet the needs of SOCAR, expanding its activities in foreign countries, and other industries in highly qualified engineers who have entered into English using modern training programs and training technologies.

By decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated April 10, 2012, Elmar Gasimov was appointed rector of the Baku High School of Oil.

Baku High School of Oil is the only technical university of Azerbaijan, where training is carried out entirely in English. University from the first years of its existence cooperates with the University of Heriot-Watt in the UK. The University has signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of training of specialists, applying the university program of teaching English in BVSHN, training specialists in the project of a double diploma in two specialties.

Campus of the Baku High School of Oil is one of the largest training campuses in the Caucasus region with a rich material and technical base. It includes modern laboratories, student town, canteens, two gym and swimming pool. BVSHN campus was opened on May 1, 2017 by President Ilham Aliyev.

In the year of the first admission to universities, BVSHN countries became the leader among 51 universities in the rating table compiled by the State Examination Center (HPC). Currently, BVSH is conducting training for a bachelor’s degree in the field: “Oil and Gas Engineering”, “Chemical Engineering”, “Engineering for the Automation of Processes”, “Information Security”, as well as the Master’s degree in the specialties: “Oil and Gas Engineering”, “Chemical Engineering “,” Engineering for the automation of processes “,” Master of Business Administration (MBA). The university also conducts training under a doctoral program. At the same time, students were admitted to the correspondence department at 2020/2021 academic year for those who wish to receive re-higher education in the specialty “Oil and gas engineering”.

Middle score when entering the Baku School of Oil is 650 and above, which is the highest in Azerbaijan.

In the 2021/2022 academic year, the highest school for the first time adopted students on the second group of specialties, and 11 of the applicants entered on this specialty were awarded the presidential scholarship. 33 out of 102 students awarded presidential scholarships in the 2021/2022 academic year are presidential scholars of BVSHN. This is a record indicator in the history of Azerbaijani education.
