Baku, Tbilisi and Ankara strengthen customs cooperation

On the eve of the Turkish Izmir, a tripartite meeting was held on customs issues between the governments of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia. The purpose of the meeting was to promote trade, regional economic integration and increasing transit potential, reported HAQQIN.AZ in the press service of the State Committee.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister of Commerce of Turkey, head of the Customs Administration of Riza Tuna Turagay, speaking of the role of customs services in the protection of borders and promoting economic growth, noted that the meeting serves to further strengthen tripartite cooperation in this and other areas.

In turn, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan Safar Mehtiev noted that Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan as friendly and partnerships are rapidly moving along the path of successful development, and this meeting will instill confidence that cooperation between the parties will continue to be sustainable .

Safar Mehtiyev stressed the high level of associations of Azerbaijan with both Turkey and Georgia in all areas, including in customs, expressing confidence that in the near future, three-way cooperation will further strengthen the relationship between the customs services of these countries.

General Director of the Minister of Finance of Georgia, Levan Kakawa, noted that Turkish-Azerbaijani-Georgian relations are developing in the plane of the strategic partnership, efficient cooperation has been established in all areas, the customs of the parties also contribute to this cooperation.

During the meeting, a number of issues related to customs cooperation were discussed, including the strengthening of cooperation between customs authorities in the field of law enforcement and at border points, digitization of international freight procedures, the work of Turkey-Nakhchivan-Azerbaijan-Georgia corridor was discussed, Railway Baku-Tbilisi Kars.

Parties noted the importance of creating a tripartite committee between the customs authorities of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia and agreed to strengthen cooperation in order to provide operational relations.

At the same time, the sides expressed their readiness to strengthen cooperation in the fight against smuggling and other offenses. In order to strengthen cooperation in the fight against smuggling and security related activities, the creation of a joint focal point was agreed.

Meeting participants expressed their readiness to sign an agreement on the exchange of primary information to facilitate transit customs procedures within the framework of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project.
