The Baku Court of Appeal considered the appeal of the former head of the State Service for the Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan Zakir Sultanov.
As it became known to Haqqin.az, the court decision of Sultanov was reduced to 5 years 6 months.
Note that by the decision of the Baku court on serious crimes in January of this year, Zakir Sultanov was sentenced to 11 years in prison with serving a sentence in a correctional institution.
Zakir Sultanov was detained in May 2020 during an operation carried out by the state security service on charges of assigning budget money allocated for the protection and reconstruction of cultural and historical monuments. For many years, Haqqin.az wrote about the corruption activities of Z. Sultanov, in particular about his role in the destruction of architectural buildings in Old Baku. Z. Sultanov, entering into a conspiracy with high -ranking officials and heads of executive branch, withdrew architectural buildings from the register under guard of the state, which then went under the demolition and erection of new buildings.
