Baku Was Called To Properly Legal Assessment Of Hodzhalin Massacre

International community to give proper legal assessment of the massacre in the Azerbaijani city of Khojaly, as a result of which hundreds of civilian citizens of the country were killed on February 26, 1992.

This is stated in the appeal of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the tragedy.

Aliyeva called on the international community to make efforts to hold the perpetrators to justice.

“has been 33 years since the Hodzhalinsky genocide committed by Armenia during the long-term policy of ethnic purge, hatred and genocide against the Azerbaijani people and has become one of the most bloody pages in the history of mankind,” the statement said.

Sabina Aliyeva also noted that representatives of the former Armenian separatist regime in Karabakh, whom Azerbaijan brought to justice as accused, in their testimony admitted to participation in crimes in Khojaly.

According to her, mass burials found in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan after the Second Karabakh war and anti -terrorist events of 2023, “once again prove the merciless murder by Armenian soldiers of peaceful Azerbaijanis.”

“The world community and international organizations should not remain indifferent to this crime of genocide, the consolidation of general efforts, the Khojalin genocide should receive a fair legal assessment, and the persons who have committed this terrible tragedy must bear a well -deserved punishment,” said Aliyeva.

The Khojalinsky massacre of 1992, in its cruelty and methods of reprisal, remains one of the black pages in the history of mankind.

On the night of February 25 to February 26, 1992, Armenian armed groups with the support of armored vehicles and personnel of the 366th motorized rifle regiment of the former Soviet Army occupied the city of Khojaly and made a brutal reprisal against the civilian population – Azerbaijanis. 2500 inhabitants of the city in the ring tried to escape, moving in the direction of Agdam.

However, the Armenian thugs from the ambush point blankly shot unarmed people. 613 civilians were killed, among them 63 children, 106 women and 70 old people – all the inhabitants of Khojaly. 8 families were completely destroyed, 25 children became complete orphans, 130 children lost one parent, 487 people, including 76 children, were injured, 1275 people were captured. About the fate of 150 people, including 68 women and 26 children, still does not know anything.
