Humanity can remain without bananas because of the high-intction soil mushroom, writes Die Welt.
The disease called Tropical Race 4 (TR4) began to actively spread to Asia and Australia in the 20th century, but in 2019 it was first discovered in South America – the world’s main supplier of bananas.
According to the expert on fruit in the Marketing company AMI Ursula Schokemelev, the first plantations have already been closed in Colombia and Honduras. She noted that the disease is not amenable to expirators, because of which infected soils will be derived from the turnover at least for 30-40 years.
It is noted that TR4 is basically affecting the Cavendish grade, the export of which covers 95% of world trade of bananas.
Specialists warn that even a small particle of infected soil on the sole of a farmer can lead to the spread of infection. In addition, they explained that the disease quickly applies due to plants to each other and the same genes.
“Men’s flowers of banana palm trees are sterile, and women form fruit without pollination. Cavendish multiplied by inconspicuously through processes,” experts emphasize.
According to scientists, in nature there is no such a yield variety of bananas as Cavendish. In addition, in many countries of Asia, Africa and America, these fruits are the same important product in a daily diet, like potatoes and fig.
“If we consider that the population of the Earth is more than seven billion people, then the increase in the demand of the growing population of developing countries in food products is the main reason for the growth of bananas production,” said FAO.
Thus, humanity can lose not just a tasty, but also the necessary food.
