A telephone conversation was held between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Iran Jehun Bayramov and Hossein Amir Abdollahian, according to the Foreign Ministry of AR.
During the conversation, Bayramov strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran, as a result of which one employee died and two were injured.
The Foreign Minister once again recalled that on the basis of the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations, the Iranian side is obliged to protect the embassy building from all kinds of encroachments and ensure the safety of its employees.
The minister demanded that the competent authorities of Iran as soon as possible bring to justice the person who committed the attack, and law enforcement agencies conducted a comprehensive investigation, identified and punished other persons involved in the organization and committing a crime.
In turn, the Iranian Foreign Minister expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, the leadership and people of Azerbaijan.
He noted that the relevant bodies of Iran immediately responded to the incident, and at present this issue is investigated by law enforcement agencies. According to him, the safety of the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran and its employees is currently at the highest level.
Abdollahian said that a criminal case has been instituted for carrying weapons and killing against the detainee, and he will be severely punished. The Foreign Minister also noted that the police are currently being investigated, responsible for the territory where the embassy is located.
Iranian minister expressed the hope that as a result this event will not lead to an increase in tension between the two countries.
