Beijing Protested Against New US Duties

China protested against the new duties of the United States, introduced as part of the policy of “mutual tariffs”.

In the statement of the Ministry of Trade of China, it is noted that Beijing categorically disagree with this decision and intends to take firm response measures to protect his rights and interests

The document emphasizes that the policy of “mutual tariffs”, as it is called in the United States, is based on subjective and unilateral assessments, does not comply with the rules of international trade.

“This is a typical example of unilateral economic coercion. Such actions will not only damage the United States, but also jeopardize the development of the global economy and stability of the supply chains,” the statement is from the statement.

In addition, the Chinese side indicated that the United States, under the pretext of “reciprocity”, increased tariffs for all its trading partners, thereby ignoring the balance of interests reached over the years of multilateral trade negotiations.

“History proves that raising tariffs does not solve the problems of the United States. There are no winners in trading wars, and protectionism is not a way out,” the department emphasized.

China urged the United States to cancel unilateral tariff measures and resolve disagreements with trading partners through an equal dialogue.

The USA will introduce 34 percentage fees for Chinese goods

The President of the State Donald Trump said that on April 4, the United States will begin to apply “mutual tariffs” in relation to other countries.

The basic tariff rate will be more than 10 percent, while additional duties will be introduced depending on the country, taking into account all restrictions, as well as manifestations of unfair competition.

In particular, for China, an additional “mutual fee” is introduced in the amount of 24 percent to the base rate of 10 percent, which together will be 34 percent. New duties will enter into force in stages: the base rate of 10 percent will begin to operate on April 5, and an additional 24 percent – April 9.

Previously, Trump has already introduced duties on Chinese imports.

In response to US actions, Beijing applied countermeasures by introducing additional duties on certain American goods and sanctions against American companies.
