A new, southern operational command will be formed in the Armed Forces of Belarus. This was stated by President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko. According to him, the idea of strengthening the southern direction appeared even before the war in Ukraine in connection with pressure from NATO in Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. The new Belarusian group will be created due to the rotation of the troops, Euronews reports.
At the same time, the government of the republic announced plans to create a people’s militia: according to the Minister of Defense of the country, this should become a preventive measure against possible invasions of Belarusian territory.
Belarus does not formally participate in the Russian invasion, but provides infrastructure for the transfer of Russian troops and treats wounded Russian soldiers, the television channel notes.
