In Belgium, the court rejected the complaint of a woman who was not hired because of the hijab.
According to local media, the woman did not accept the application for hiring in the municipality of Brussels in January 2021 because of the hijab, in connection with which she filed a lawsuit in court.
In December 2022, the Civil Court of the first instance of Brussels decided in favor of the capital’s municipality.
In January 2023, the plaintiff appealed to the Brussels court for labor disputes. However, referring to the decision of the EU court, the Belgian court ruled that the woman was not subject to discrimination.
On November 28, 2023, the EU court ruled that state institutions in the countries participating in the Commonwealth have the right to prohibit employees at workplaces, symbolizing religious beliefs.
