The Belgorod authorities removed the newly erected monument to an elderly woman with the flag of the USSR, Meduza reports with reference to the mayor of Anton Ivanov.
The monument was erected opposite the Victory cinema in the city center on May 3. Almost immediately, according to the mayor, he began to be subjected to acts of vandalism. It came to attempts to climb into the sculpture. “They removed. … I won’t do moralization, I think the majority understands everything,” said the mayor.
Ivanov said that the new place for the monument will be selected in such a way that the inhabitants do not have the opportunity to contact him.
A woman who erected a monument – a resident of the Kharkov region, the heroine of the video, who became viral in early April. In the video, she leaves the house with the flag of the USSR to meet the Ukrainian military, confusing them with the soldiers of the Russian army. The image of a woman with a flag is actively used by propaganda and Russians who support the “special operation” in Ukraine. In many Russian cities, posters and graffiti with a woman appear, Meduza notes.
