Bernardo Arevalo won presidential election in Guatemala

In the presidential election in Guatemala, Bernardo Arevalo, the son of ex-president Juan Jose Arevalo, won the Prensa Libre.

According to the statement of the Supreme Election Court, after the counting of more than 96 percent of the ballots of Arevalo, representing the Left -centric movement “Semilla”, scored 59 percent of the vote in the second round of elections (2 385 374).

His main rival, a candidate from the national unity of Hope (Een), Sandra Torres received 37 percent of the vote (1,463,216). The final results will be summed up in a few days, the inauguration will be held on January 14.

The current president of Guatemala Alejandro Jammati congratulated Bernardo Arevalo on the victory on the social network X (formerly Twitter). He invited him to “start the transfer of power the next day, after the results become official.”
