US President Joe Biden signed an act of respect for marriage approved by Congress, which is legalized by same -sex and interracial marriages, foreign media reports.
“Today is a wonderful day! The day when America takes the most important step towards equality, freedom and justice not only for some, but for everyone,” Joe Biden said during the signing ceremony.
Earlier, the bill was approved by a significant majority of legislators votes in both chambers of Congress. 61 senator voted for him, all members of the democratic faction and 12 Republicans, 36 senators opposed.
The bill does not establish the national requirement to legalize same -sex marriages throughout the country. The document obliges any US state to recognize same -sex marriages concluded in other states – even if this state itself does not recognize such unions.
