The USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Italy will provide Ukraine with a strategic and tactical air defense system of “historical” significance. This was stated by US President Joe Biden at the ceremony held in the “Audience of Andrew W. Mellon” on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of NATO.
The American leader said that NATO was “equipped better than ever before”, reminding that this year 23 allies allocated 2 percent of their gross domestic product (GDP) to defense. Having called it big progress, Biden said: “We are stronger than ever.”
The US President believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not stop in Ukraine. “But know that Ukraine will stop Putin. Especially with our collective support,” he emphasized.
“Today I would like to announce that we will make a historical donation for the air defense of Ukraine. The USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Italy will provide Ukraine for five additional strategic air defense systems. In the coming months, the United States and their partners will provide Ukraine with dozens of additional Tactical air defense systems, ”he emphasized.
According to him, in this war “more than 350 thousand Ukrainian military were killed, more than 1 million were injured.”
The US President said that many young people left Russia because they do not see the future for themselves.
At the celebration, the American leader handed the NATO Secretary General to Jens Stoltenberg the presidential medal of freedom.
Biden said that a significant merit of the progress that we have reached in the Alliance is the merit of the Secretary General.
