US President Joe Biden on Friday signed the bills approved by the Congress earlier by the Congress on the suspension of normal trade relations with the Russian Federation and Belarus, as well as the prohibition of imports of Russian energy carriers because of the war in Ukraine, said the White House.
According to a common statement of the American administration, we are talking about the “Law on the Termination of imports of Russian oil”, which legally prohibits the supply of energy from the Russian Federation, as well as about the “law on the suspension of normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus”, aimed at further tightening restrictions in the commercial sphere.
Both Chambers of the American Congress on Thursday voted in support of these initiatives. The first of them in essence duplicates the Decree of Byyden, which in early March banned the import of energy resources from the Russian Federation and new investments in the Russian energy sector.
The suspension of normal trade relations, in turn, allows the US administration to establish higher duties than for the remaining WTO member countries. This measure will act until early 2024.
