Black Sea gas will reduce energy imports and contribute to Turkish economy

gas supply from the Sakarya deposit in the Turkish Black Sea segment will contribute to the coating of the energy needs of Turkey and the development of the country’s economy as a whole.

It is predicted that Black Sea gas, which will be staged by the Sakarya deposit, flows billions of lire into the country’s economy.

In addition, the supply of Black Sea gas will strengthen the energy security of Turkey, which today largely depends on the import of energy resources and is based on imports about 60 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Thus, the beginning of gas supplies with the Sakarya deposit, which is developed by the Turkish oil corporation (TPAO), will be a turning point in the country’s energy sector.

The beginning of the supply of natural gas with the Sakarya deposit is scheduled for Thursday, April 20.

GAZ in the Turkish Black Sea segment was discovered in 2020, 170 km from the province of Eonguldak.

Further, large -scale work began, during which more than 8 thousand people worked in three shifts on land and over 2 thousand – at sea.

The input ceremony of Black Sea gas will be held at the Movies gas processing facility with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Gas from the Sakarya deposit will sleep for processing at the TPAO Filyos object. Here, the gas will take place the necessary processing in accordance with the standards of the Turkish company Botaş. Further, the gas will enter the main gas measuring station Botaş, after which its supply to the Turkish gas distribution network will begin.

It is expected that Black Sea gas will begin to enter Turkish houses in the first half of May.

natural gas production in Turkey will be carried out in stages. 5 out of 10 wells planned for entering an expansion within the first phase will be involved immediately after the ceremony. The remaining 5 wells will be commissioned at the end of September of this year. The second phase is expected to begin in 2026, and the third in 2028 with the inclusion of the AMARA deposit in the production of the field. Within the framework of the first phase, the daily gas production will be 10 million cubic meters, the second phase – 40 million cubic meters and the third – 60 million cubic meters.

, within the framework of the second phase, it is envisaged to provide gas to all households of Turkey.

The total volume of reserves in the Turkish Black Sea sector for December 2022 was estimated at 710 billion cubic meters.
