US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken today called the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the press service of the head of state reports.
During the conversation, Blinken recalled that on November 7 this year, the next negotiations of Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia under a peace treaty were held in Washington, emphasizing that the United States is determined to contribute to the process of normalizing the relationship between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Aliyev, in turn, noted that the constant attention of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the US efforts in this direction deserve a high assessment. At the same time, the head of state emphasized that, despite the efforts and negotiations in this direction, the contradictory statements made by the leadership of Armenia in recent days negatively affect the normalization of relations between the two countries and promoting the peaceful agenda.
US Secretary of State said that there is a historical opportunity to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the signing of a peace treaty, and said that the United States would continue its efforts in this direction.
During a telephone conversation, an exchange of views was held regarding the next meeting under a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the measures of strengthening trust.
