The Supreme Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel proposed creating modern and interdependent European armed forces. Such an army should be deprived of the shortcomings that the EU forces now have and which have become obvious after the full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation to Ukraine. This was reported on the website of the diplomatic service of the European Union. The head of the EU diplomacy emphasized that the European Union must take on more responsibility for its own security.
A schedule has been published, which shows how the total expenses for the defense of the EU member states decreased after the start of the crisis in 2008. They reached a minimum in 2014 – precisely at the moment when Russia occupied the Ukrainian Crimea. It is noted that only now expenses have reached a pre -crisis level.
