The head of the EU diplomacy, Josep Borrel, said that the European Union is “not afraid of the rise of China,” and also called on Beijing to take on more responsibility, including on ensuring peace and security.
Borrel wrote about this on his blog on the website of the European Foreign Policy Service, publishing a speech that he had to make in Beijing.
“We are not afraid of the rise of China. However, we know that the history of tomorrow will also depend on how China uses its power,” the head of European diplomacy wrote.
Borrel noted that the world should withstand the Extraordinary Climate situation and the consequences of the Pandemia of Coronavirus.
The head of the diplomacy of the European Union believes that Beijing should take on more responsibility, including for peace and security. “China and the EU have strong economic relations. However, an imbalance has formed between the EU and China, which must be reduced,” he said.
Borrel emphasized that the EU is interested in maintaining an open system and without hesitation will take measures “to protect against unfair actions”.
The head of the EU’s diplomacy admitted that Europe is “excessively dependent on China regarding some types of raw materials, such as cobalt, manganese and magnesium. At the same time, he added that the EU is able to quickly get rid of dependence when the vital interests are at risk.
Borrel also gave the PRC “Friendly Council” in the situation in Ukraine, saying that the European Union will be “extremely difficult, if it is not even impossible to maintain trusting relations with China” if Beijing does not contribute to the search for a political resolution of the conflict.
