BP should donate the wartime profit received in Russia for the restoration of Ukraine. This requirement was put forward by members of the British parliament, representing different parties, during the debate on December 7, writes The Guardian.
If BP refuses, parliamentarians demand that the ministers introduce a superprofit tax for it, thereby forcing the company to fulfill the requirement to transfer funds to Ukraine.
At the end of February, BP announced the termination of cooperation because of the war in Ukraine, announced the intention to sell its share of 19.75% in Rosneft, which at that time cost $ 11.5 billion. However, the company still owns this shares. According to Global Witness, the dividends proposed by the Rosneft BP for this year are about £ 580 million, which is equivalent to thirds of the volume of assistance provided by Ukraine of Great Britain this year. Since 2013, this share has brought BP £ 3.75 billion dividends.
Speaking in the House of Commons, the representative of the Labor Party Margaret Khoja said that “it was incredibly a shame when a large public British company is profitable from the sale of oil, which finances the” Russian war in Ukraine. “BP should voluntarily sacrifice all its Russian dividends to restore Ukraine, or the government should take measures to force it to do this,” said Hodge.
