Brazilian President Luis Inasiu Lula da Silva approved a law adopted by Congress prohibiting the use of mobile phones in primary and secondary schools.
According to the new law, the use of mobile phones will be prohibited both in the lessons and during changes.
President Lula da Silva noted that the law is “absolutely” necessary and such measures are already being introduced in other countries.
He also emphasized that since the meeting at meetings has repeatedly warned ministers and other officials about the refusal of using phones, as they distract attention.
According to the new rules, the use of phones in schools will be allowed only for pedagogical purposes and under the supervision of teachers.
According to a survey conducted by the Locomotiva and QUESTIONPRO Institute in October 2024, 82% of Brazilian parents support the ban on the use of mobile phones in schools.
Given the negative impact of phones on the health and training of children and adolescents, Congress approved the law on the ban on their use in schools on December 20, 2024.
