In Lithuania by mid-2026, they plan to put into operation a plant for the production of 155 mm artillery ammunition of the German giant Rheinmetall.
The enterprise is expected to work in the Baysogal of the Radvilishk district of Lithuania, reports LRT.
“The plant will begin operation in mid -2026 and after completing the construction will be able to produce tens of thousands of artillery shells of 155 mm caliber per year,” Rheinmetall said.
On Friday, representatives of the Lithuanian government and the German defense-industrial giant Rheinmetall will sign contracts for the rental of a land plot for the future plant in the Radvilishk district.
The signing will be attended by Ingrid Shinite, the head of Rheinmetall Defense Lietuva Roman Köne, Minister of Economics and Innovation Aushrina Armonite and Minister of Defense Laurinas Kashunas, the Ministry of Economics and Innovation said on Thursday.
In early November, Kashchunas said that one of the problems that arose earlier in negotiations with Rheinmetall was the standardization and integration of products that are planned to be produced at the factory in Lithuania.
In mid-November, the government also approved the purchase from Rheinmetall without a competition of 155-mm artillery shells for German PZH 2000, used by the Lithuanian army and purchased French self-propelled howitzers Caesar.
Kashmunas said that this was one of the terms of the agreement with Rheinmetall. Rheinmetall intends to invest more than 180 million euros in the production plant for 155 mm artillery ammunition in Lithuania, this will create at least 150 new jobs.
