Canada decided to weaken the sanctions imposed against Syria for 6 months to support the political transition process in Syria after the overthrow of the Bashar Assad regime.
As reported on the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) website, where the official statements of the Canadian government are published, Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie and the Minister of International Development Ahmed Khussen made a joint written statement.
According to the statement, the Ottawa government decided to weaken the sanctions imposed on Syria for 6 months to support the restoration and stabilization of the country.
In this regard, the Canadian government allowed some financial transactions for 7 banks associated with Syria for 6 months.
The statement states that 90 percent of the Syrians, who have been subjected to internal conflict and oppression for many years, live behind the poverty line. About $ 58.5 million new funds will be allocated for urgent humanitarian aid to the Syrians.
Ambassador to Lebanon McColum is appointed new ambassador to Syria
Another statement published on the GAC website states that the Canadian Ambassador to Lebani Stephanie McCllum is also nominated for the post of ambassador in Syria.
McCallum as an ambassador-Nerezient will fulfill his duties through Lebanon.
According to the statement, the Canadian government supports the peaceful and inclusive transition process in Syria and calls for all sides in Syria to reduce tension.
