The Catholic Church will pay $ 76 million to hundreds of victims of sexual violence, which took place in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in the east of Canada.
The court decided to pay compensation to more than 200 victims who have been sexual and physical violence in orphanages and schools that functioned under the auspices of the Catholic Church.
In accordance with the court decision, the church will pay about $ 76 million as compensation to the victims of sexual violence, which lasted for several decades since 1940.
Most of the more than 150 thousand children of the indigenous peoples held in church boarding schools, the first of which was opened in the early 1880s, and the latter was closed in 1998, were subjected to physical, sexual and psychological violence and mockery from the side priests, nuns and other teachers.
