Centuries -old Paid in North Macedonia – living witness of history

A centuries -old Paid in the courtyard of the Gazi Mosque, Isa Bay, who is one of the oldest monuments of the architectural art of the Ottoman period in the capital of Northern Macedonia, for centuries invites visitors to hide under their crown on sultry summer days.

The botanical name of the east plane, which is about 550 years old, sounds like Platanus Orientalis.

It is believed that the centuries-old Platan was landed during the construction of the mosque in 1475, Isa Bey, the grandson of Pasha Yigit-Bey, the commander who won Skopier.

The height of the tree, taken under guard as a botanical nature monument in 1993, is 20 meters, the diameter of the barrel is 7.3 meters.

A tree on the territory of the Gazi Mosque Isa-Bey is the second oldest in Northern Macedonia and one of the three oldest platans in southeastern Europe.

Researcher Ertugrul Karakush said that under this tree, the Turkish poet Yahya Kemal Beatla, who lived in Skopier, was growing under this tree because of his mother’s death. The grave of Hanami, the mother of Yahya Kemal Beatla, is also located near the Platan.

Plates usually grow in the Balkans, Anatolia, Eurasia, as well as the countries of East and Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, it is noted that the landing of this type of plant has recently demonstrates a decrease in the consequences of climate change.
