Chairman Of Council Of Council Of Russian Federation Will Visit Turkey

Chairman of the Council of the Federation of Russia Valentina Matvienko will arrive in Turkey at the official invitation of the speaker of the great National Assembly of Numan Kurtulmush.

The diplomatic efforts of Ankara to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict are ongoing. In addition to intergovernmental contacts, parliamentary diplomacy takes an active part in this process.

In this context, Matvienko will visit Ankara, where he will negotiate with Kurtulmush. After a bilateral meeting, they will take place of mestering negotiations. Then a joint press conference is planned, after which the Russian delegation will take part in a meeting of the General Assembly of the Turkish Parliament.

Kurtulmush on September 24, 2024 visited Russia, where he spoke to the members of the Federation Council at the opening of a new legislative session. In his speech, he emphasized that Türkiye considers the dialogue as a key tool for resolving the conflict, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan supports interaction with Vladimir Putin in this direction.

Erdogan continues negotiations with Moscow and Kyiv

The President of Turkey from the first days of the conflict is actively diplomatic work, trying to achieve the cessation of hostilities. He regularly negotiates with the leaders of both countries.

Last week, Erdogan held negotiations with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Ankara. The leaders held a personal meeting, then the scooping negotiations took place, and a press conference was held according to their results. In addition, the parties signed a number of agreements.

In the same period, Erdogan accepted in Ankara the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Lavrov.

At a joint press conference with Zelensky, Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye from the very beginning of the conflict has advocated the settlement of the conflict through negotiations. He recalled that in Istanbul negotiations were closest to reaching the agreement, and said that Türkiye was ready to act as a mediator in possible future negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and the USA.

In 2022, shortly after the start of the conflict, in Istanbul through the mediation of the UN, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine, an agreement on the grain corridor was signed. This document allowed partially reducing the influence of war on world food prices.
