Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Chavushoglu was accused that the former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on July 15, 2016 published an entry on his Twitter page in support of the coup at the time of the coup in Turkey.
“The ex-US Secretary of State on the night of a coup in Turkey published a tweet that then deleted. This publication was in support of the actions of the terrorists,” he emphasized at a press conference in Ankara.
In addition, the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry criticized Pompeo’s statements about Turkey published in his memoirs.
“These statements do not reflect reality and are a manifestation of double standards,” said Chavushoglu.
Pompeo served as Secretary of State from April 2018 to January 2021 under the administration of the ex-president of the United States Donald Trump. In his book, he talked about how he had to literally break through the Turkish guard in the presidential palace to enter the office, where Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and former US Vice President Mike Pence.
As Pompeo himself admits in his book, he decided to take such a step, since he was worried that Pence was shown a three -hour documentary about an attempt by a coup in Turkey in 2016. The ex-state secretary wrote that this film was shown by Turkish officials during his first visit to Turkey.
