Turkey contacts the “Taliban” movement in Afghanistan on various channels, Turkey Foreign Minister Mevlyut Chavushoglu told reporters.
“Ankara contacts the Taliban, whether through Kabul, or through Doha. And these contacts are necessary,” said the head of Turkish diplomacy, recalling that the representatives of the Taliban’s political wing received an invitation to visit Turkey before the movement militants entered Kabul.
Chavushoglu noted that at present, the head of the Supreme Council on National Reconciliation in Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah, the leader of the Islamic Party of Afghanistan Gulbeddin Hematiyar and the former President Hamid Karzai are negotiating with the leadership of Taliban on the formation of the government with the participation of other influential Afghans.
According to the Turkish minister, at the moment the priority for the former Afghan authorities is precisely the question.
Chavushoglu also appreciated the possibility of recognizing the Ankara of the new government, which will be formed in Afghanistan. “Taliban promised to form an inclusive government. We need to see if an inclusive government will be really formed or not. Turkey will act with the international community,” the minister said.
