In Chicago, which every year becomes the venue for the most striking events in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, the tradition was preserved this year.
Thousands of Schikago inhabitants from early morning filled the streets of the city in green clothes and costumes, preparing for the holiday.
The first action, the traditional staining of the Chicago River, began at about 10:00 local time. A special substance was dropped into the water that did not harm nature, which was delivered on boats.
The second largest event of the day was the traditional procession in which several thousand people took part.
St. Patrick’s Day, which is celebrated annually on March 17, was established in honor of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. It is believed that St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland in the 5th century and became an important figure in the religious and cultural life of the country.
Initially, a religious holiday, the day of St. Patrick over time turned into an event dedicated to the culture and heritage of Ireland.
