After joining the Taliban, there is a possibility of repetition of attacks such as 9/11 terrorist attack in the United States. This opinion was expressed by the head of the British counterintelligence or security service MI5 Ken McCalum.
“A large problem coming from Afghanistan along with the direct inspirational effect is the risk that terrorists will restore and put us on the path of well-developed, sophisticated conspiracies with which we encountered during September 11 and in the following years.” Stressed McCalum.
The head of counterintelligence could not definitely answer the question of whether the UK is more or less safe now than it was during 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States. He noted that over the past four years, 31 terrorist conspiracy in late stage was running. Since 2006, after a trunked plan of terrorists to undermine seven aircraft departing from the London Heathrow airport, so large-scale incidents were rare, mainly due to the control over Afghanistan.
Maccalum concluded that the security service MI5 will focus on preventing such threats, but it does not always turn out to be possible.
