As of the end of 2022, the number of children and adolescents under the age of 17 in Turkey amounted to 22,578,378 people, that is, 26.5 percent of the total population of the country. Such data leads on Tuesday the Institute for Statistics of Turkey (Tüi̇k).
According to the results of the targeted registration system, the number of Turkish citizens as of the end of 2022 amounted to 85,279,53 people.
51.3 percent of citizens of children’s and adolescence at the end of last year were boys and 48.7 percent – girls.
For comparison, according to the UN, in 1970, children amounted to 48.5 percent of the population of Turkey. In 1990, this indicator decreased to 41.8 percent, and in 2022 to 26.5.
According to demographic forecasts, in 2030 the share of the children’s population of Turkey will be 25.6 percent, in 2040 – 23.3 percent, in 2060 – 20.4 percent, in 2080 – 19 percent.
In the analysis of indicators of the children’s population in 27 countries of the European Union (EU), the average in 2022 was 18.1 percent.
