The lists entering Russian universities were classified by the data of children of the participants in the invasion of Ukraine, writes Kommersant.
This year they received benefits: universities allocated a special quota for them – 10% of the total number of budget places. Children of the wounded or dead military can do without exams; Universities can enroll children of living participants even with relatively low exam points – or provide them with the right to retake an exam.
Depending on the university, all applicants are identified by the name or SNILS number – these data are in the public domain. But the children of the war participants are assigned a special number that does not allow to reveal their personal data.
Universities explain that they fulfill the requirement of the Ministry of Education and Science. The May recommendations of the department really indicate that this category of applicants is assigned a “unique code”.
In addition, as Kommersant found out, the quota of 10% was not fully filled in most universities. At Moscow State University. Lomonosov of 408 places allocated by quota, 146 are taken, 110 out of 150 at the RSUSU, and in the “Higher School of Economics” – 173 of 266.
