China, against the backdrop of the approval by Russian President Vladimir Putin, an updated nuclear doctrine called on the parties to show restraint and reduce a degree of tension. This was announced at a daily press conference in Beijing by the representative of the PRC Foreign Ministry Lin Jian.
He noted that China is in support of the political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
“In the current circumstances, all parties must remain calm and restrained, eliminate strategic risks to reduce descalation by dialogue and consultations,” said Lin Jian.
The representative of the Foreign Ministry of the KND emphasized that China’s position on the Ukrainian issue has not changed. China, for its part, will continue to play a constructive role in this matter, ”he said.
Earlier, on November 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree approving an updated nuclear doctrine – the basis of state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence.
“The Russian Federation reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in response to the use of nuclear and (or) other types of weapons of mass destruction against it and (or) its allies, as well as in the event of aggression against the Russian Federation and (or) the Republic of Belarusia as participants in the Union State with the use of ordinary weapons, which pose a critical threat to their sovereignty and (or) territorial integrity, ”follows from the document.
