CIA head: Putin has many problems because of war

The war, which the Russian President Vladimir Putin began against Ukraine, from a strategic point of view, is unsuccessful for Russia, but so far does not threaten his power, said the head of the CIA William Burns in an interview with PBS.

“I do not underestimate the burden for a moment, the challenges that this war puts before the Ukrainians primarily and to all of us who support Ukraine. But from a strategic point of view, I think, in many respects, the Putin war has still been unsuccessful for Russia. The Russian army showed itself badly and suffered huge losses. The Russian economy suffered long -term damage. Most of the progress achieved by the Russian middle class over the past 30 years has been lost, ”Berns said.

According to him, the reputation of Russia is greatly undermined, and its weaknesses were exposed. The Russian population, according to the director of the CIA, is increasingly worried about the price of war. Berns recalled that after the announcement of partial mobilization in Russia, more than Russians fled from the country, which Putin was able to collect and send to the front.

“Therefore, he also has a lot of problems,” Burns said.
