Climate change slows down ground

Polar ice, caused by an anthropogenic climate change, slows down the rotation of the earth a little. This follows from the results of the study published in the scientific journal Nature.

The author of the work is the geophysicist Duncan Agnyo from the Institute of Oceanography of the University of California at San Diego (USA).

According to scientists, this may affect the global calculation of time. We are talking about a “negative additional second.” Agnaho’s calculations showed that if the current trend is maintained, to enter a negative leap second at the World Coordinated Time (UTC) will be in 2029, and not in 2026.

The influence of geophysical phenomena on the rotation of the Earth was studied using mathematical modeling.
