CNN: European Union can turn off Russia from SWIFT

The countries of the European Union are discussing the possibility of turning off Russia from the interbank SWIFT system because of the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, CNN reported with reference to a high-ranking representative of the European Union.

According to the television channel, the EU countries divided into views on this issue. So, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania advocate that the disconnection of the Russian Federation from SWIFT has become part of a wider package of sanctions, which is expected to be European countries on Thursday. For its part, Germany, Italy, Hungary and Cyprus are opponents of such a measure and advocate the development of closer economic ties with Russia.
