Coal Embargo and Transport Blockade: European Union approved new sanctions against Russia

The European Union managed to approve the fifth package of sanctions against Russia, containing, in particular, coal embargo. It is reported by European Pravda with reference to the French Chairmanship of the EU Council.

According to information, the package will contain new personal sanctions against Russian oligarchs, propagandists, military and the security office of the Russian Federation, key individuals from the industrial and technological sector.

The European Union agreed to block the assets of a number of Russian banks, introduce the embargo on the supply of weapons in the Russian Federation and prohibit the export of a number of goods to the country. The latter is estimated at 10 billion euros and will include, in particular, high-tech goods.

relative to the coal embargo, as expected, countries agreed to introduce it, but the date is still unknown. As reported, the EU was planned to postpone its action for August.

The embargo will affect a number of and other goods and raw materials by 5.5 billion euros annually. As previously noted, the list includes Russian wood. Also, the Russian courts will be banned to enter the ports of the EU member states, and road transport operators will now be able to operate on the territory of the block.

After publication in the official EU Bulletin on Friday, the measures will take effect.
